We use our teeth everyday to smile and having a bright, confident smile makes it easier to do. Cosmetic dentistry is something that can help with this. There are several different parts to cosmetic dentistry that include: orthodontics, dental bonding, veneers, and bleaching to name a few of the most common ones.
If you have crooked, discolored, or oddly shaped teeth, cosmetic dentistry may be able to help you.
To determine what kind of cosmetic dentistry will benefit you, a consultation with information gathering is the first step. During this first appointment, we will define what your goals are, make study models, take photos, and complete an examination with appropriate radiographs. A second appointment is typically made to finalize a treatment plan and to discuss treatment expectations. How long the treatment will take and treatment costs will also be discussed at this second appointment.
Explained below are some of the common procedures done in cosmetic dentistry:
Orthodontics (read more about orthodontic services)
Straightening of crooked teeth using traditional brackets and wires or using clear braces (clear plastic trays).
Dental Bonding
Placing composite resin (tooth colored filling material) to reshape or change the color of teeth. The composite resin is “bonded” to the teeth with a “bond” agent.
Veneers (read more about veneers)
Porcelain facings that are placed on teeth to reshape or change the color. These are cemented onto the teeth. Usually requires some removal of enamel from the teeth to place them.
Bleaching (read more about teeth whitening)
Also know as whitening. A carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide gel is used to remove stains and make your smile look whiter.
Smiling is something none of us should be afraid to do. The goal with cosmetic dentistry is to help you achieve a smile you are happy to share with others.
